Important Notice Regarding 911 and E911 Service Limitations

Please read this notice carefully. This is to inform you about important limitations regarding 911 and E911 emergency services when using Seigler Technologies voice over internet protocol (VoIP) services. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE, YOU ARE NOT AUTHORIZED TO USE ANY SEIGLER TECHNOLOGIES CALLING SERVICES.

What is 911 and E911?

  • 911: The standard emergency telephone number used in the United States and Canada.
  • E911 (Enhanced 911): Provides the location of the 911 caller to the emergency dispatcher.

Limitations of 911 and E911 with VoIP:

  • Power Outages: If you experience a power outage, your internet service and therefore your VoIP service may be interrupted, preventing you from making 911 calls.
  • Internet Service Disruptions: Issues with your internet service provider (ISP) can also disrupt VoIP service and your ability to dial 911.
  • Location Information: E911 accuracy with VoIP can vary. The location information provided to the dispatcher may not be your precise location, potentially delaying emergency response.
  • Equipment Malfunction: If your VoIP equipment (router, modem, phone) malfunctions, it may prevent you from making 911 calls.

Important Actions:

  • Backup Power: Consider a backup power source, such as a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) to maintain internet connectivity during power outages.
  • Landline Backup: Maintain a traditional landline telephone for emergency calls as a backup to your VoIP service.
  • Emergency Contact Information: Ensure your emergency contacts have your current location information, especially if you frequently work from home or other locations.
  • Address Updates: Keep your address information with Seigler Technologies up-to-date to ensure accurate location data for E911.
  • Test Regularly: Test your VoIP service periodically, including 911 dialing, to ensure it's functioning correctly.
